Golf Holidays on Mallorca

Mallorca, largest of the Balearic Islands, has for many years been captivating holidaying Brits with its coastline, mountains and climate. What’s not so well known is that over recent years, the island has become a magnet for those wanting to enjoy their first golfing holiday. With 20 stunning courses on the island, where do you start? If you’re staying at the luxurious Marriot Club Son Antem complex, you have two great courses right on your doorstep to kick off your golfing holiday.

If you’re as new to golf as you are to golf holidays, the Son Antem East course is an ideal starter. Don’t however, let wide fairways and forgiving rough lull you into a false sense of security. Both these courses were designed by one of Spain’s leading golf course designers, Francisco López Segalés. Strategically placed bunkers can make approaching the greens challenging, and with five lakes dotted around the course, water hazards are always present.

With both courses set amongst the stunning resort countryside, the West Course is less forgiving than its sister. Tighter, narrower fairways, with cunning bunkers waiting for the unwary should keep you on your toes. While water hazards from three lakes covering five holes, could cost you a few strokes (and balls).

Maioris Golf Course

18 holes par 72 6309 metres

Situated on the south coast a 15 minute drive from Palma, this quirky championship level course was opened in 2006. Although designed to cater for all skill levels, low handicap golfers will still have their work cut out. The course has its fair share of water hazards with four lakes, and two island greens, ensuring you need to be on top of your gam.

Son Gual Golf Course

18 holes par 72 6257 metres

Set further inland, a visit to the Son Gual Golf Course is well worth the time it takes getting there. A 45 minute drive from your Marriot Son Antem complex will bring you to this stunning, privately owned golf club, which wends its way alongside olive groves and vineyards. Designed by Thomas Himmel, it has a little links element, with a little American style added for good measure, and is a popular course that will test all skill levels.

Val d’Or Golf Course, Porto Colom

18 holes par 71 5538 metres

Take the chance to explore a little of the beautiful island of Mallorca as you make your way across to the eastern side of the island and Porto Colom for your next round. Val d’Or is a golf course of two halves close to the coast. The first nine are undulating, with a backdrop of olive groves and pine forest, while the back nine have wider, but bumpy fairways, taking you closer to the coast, and some wonderful views across the Mediterranean.

If you’re thinking about your first golfing holiday, or considering a golfing holiday on Mallorca, consider renting a villa in Marriot’s Club Son Antem, and play some of the best courses you will find anywhere in Europe.
